Travel by Automobile

All directions below take you to the main entrance on Campus Drive.

From Baltimore and Points North

I-95 South to Exit 25 and U.S. 1 South
Go two miles south on U.S. Route 1

From Points South

I-95 North to Exit 25 and U.S. 1 South
Go two miles south on U.S. Route 1

From Bowie/Annapolis

U.S. 50 to the Capital Beltway (I-95) North
Exit Beltway at Exit 25 and U.S. 1 South; go two miles south on U.S. Route 1

From Points West

I-495 North to Exit 25
Go two miles south on U.S. Route 1

From Washington, D.C.

Take 16th St. North to Georgia Ave. North (U.S. 97)
Go about 1/4 mile to Capital Beltway (I-495) East
Get off at Exit 25 and U.S. 1 South; continue 2 miles on U.S. Route 1

Directions to the AV Williams Building

After getting onto Campus Drive from Route 1, make your first right onto Paint Branch Drive. The AV Williams building will be the second building on your right. The best place to park is the visitor's parking lot across the street, adjacent to Lot G. Otherwise, you can park at any metered space. The AV Williams building is a U-shaped, three- and four-story building. There is a one-story building (engineering annex building) in the middle of the U. See campus map for more information.

Transportation by Train

Amtrak trains service the Washington Metropolitan area. Call 1-800-872-7245 for automated information on schedules and rates. The closest station to the University is New Carrollton, where you will need to take a taxi to the campus (cost about $15.00). If you arrive at Union Station in Washington D.C. you may take the Metrorail to College Park. Take the Red line (towards Wheaton) to Fort Totten; change to the Green line (towards Greenbelt) to the College Park, University of Maryland Station. The station is about a mile walk to the south side of campus; there is shuttle service to the campus from the station.

The MARC train offers public transportation weekdays between Union Station and Washington D.C. to Baltimore's Camden Station, next door to where the Orioles play baseball in the heart of the city. There is a stop at the College Park Metro station, which has shuttle service to the campus. For schedules and general service information call the automated line at 1-800-325-7245.

Air Transporation

The university is served by three major airports. Following are suggestions for travel to campus from these airport locations.

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is located approximately 25 miles north of the University. Driving time is approximately 35 minutes. Ground transportation to College Park is available by van or taxi.

Airport Connection provides van service for about $18.00 (discounts for more than one person travelling together). Cal 1-800-284-6066 or stop at their location at the airport.

Taxi service will cost approximately $35.00

Washington National Airport (National) is located in Arlington, Virginia and about 15 miles from College Park. Travel can be slow through downtown Washington, D.C. during rush hours; approximate driving time is 40 minutes.

You can take the Metrorail from the airport. Take the yellow line toward Mt. Vernon Square and get off at L'Enfant Plaza, then transfer to the green line (towards Greenbelt). Get off at College Park, University of Maryland Station. There is shuttle service to the university.

Taxi service directly from the airport is approximately $40.00

Dulles International Airport (IAD) is located near Herndon, Virginia and is about 35 miles from College Park. Driving time is approximately one hour.

Taxi service will cost approximately $55.00

Bus service is available to take you to the West Falls Church Metrorail where you will take Metro's Orange line toward New Carrollton. Transfer at L'Enfant Plaza to the Green line (towards Greenbelt). Get off at College Park, University of Maryland Station. There is shuttle service to the University.
