IBM Partnership

Since 1994, the University of Maryland and IBM have had a strong relationship built around collaborative research projects led by faculty at Maryland and IBM researchers. These projects have been supported by IBM Shared University Research (SUR) awards and the campus. This partnership has enabled the University to set up cutting-edge computing infrastructure and test beds built from the latest IBM technologies as well as to jump start innovative research in emerging areas such as visualization tools for medical patient records, mobile computing, digital libraries, electronic commerce, high performance computing, and high-speed networking. The participating faculty have come from many units on campus including UMIACS, Computer Science, CLIS, Business, Libraries, OIT, Electrical Engineering, and Life Science.
